Salsa Dancing Lessons - Prep & Turn. A beginner lesson on how to salsa dance moves. In this dance sequence, the leader starts the basic Salsa Steps from an open hold position. Using his left arm, they prepare (prep) the follower for the single right turn by gently swinging his arm to the left, then bringing his hand up to the left side of his body just above his partners’ hair line. The leader then leads his partner into the right turn by drawing a lovely halo clockwise above their partners head on the count 6 & 7 (note for the leaders, the prep in on 1,2,3, wait for your partner to set themselves on 5 with their left foot before you turn them on 6,7). For the followers, 90% of your weight is on your right foot as you go into the turn, please follow the lead, don’t throw yourself into the turn, you will lose balance. To help you more with this, view our Salsa Steps Multiple turning technique videos, this will help you in spotting and maintaining balance.
