Networking In SalsaPosted by nicoloco in Belly Dance Lessons |
Every day around the world, millions of business people get together and exchange information about their industries, finding new ways of connecting with one another in order to sell their products and promote their companies. Some network organizations charge hefty sums for memberships, ranging from $30 per month to thousands of dollars per year.
On the same day, later that evening, millions of other people (some of whom may have visited the FDC Salsa Blog to find out the latest news in leaning how to Salsa dance) meet in basements, night clubs, concerts and loosen their ties, shed away their business suits and briefcases, and dance their hearts out to music that fills their souls with fire, excitement, passion. The entry fee to one of these places on average is only about ten dollars or euros.
I have come to find out that most people I dance with have no idea who I am, or vice versa. I am Nico, that dancer guy, or he could be Mark, the hip hop instructor, or Eddie, the ballroom dancer, and so on. As I grow as a dancer, I have tried to know more about my students other than just their first names. I ask about what they do, how they have come to dance with us, what makes them happy, and about about their dreams.
I've discovered that as we all dance the night away, the solution to a business problem, family problem, school problem, or a life problem could be the person you are dancing with, and you would never know it. I teach dance, but I also enjoy connecting people with options to some of their problems, possibly helping them and at the same time, developing lasting new friendships. I help dancers network with other dancers who might help answer questions they had during their 9-5 jobs.
So, as you put on your dancing shoes, remember that the person you're about to dance with may be a doctor, school teacher, professor, plumber, mortgage broker, nurse, or just someone who has gone through a particular experience and might be able to help you. As you introduce yourself, take the time to know a little more about the people around you, cheers
